In Bayern Munich’s press conference ahead of their Champions League last-16 second-leg meeting with Leverkusen, the media was addressed by Leon Goretzka.
“It’s obviously an advantage that we are coming here with a 3-0 lead from the first-leg.
“It’s our fifth game against Leverkusen and they were all really tight games. Regardless of the first-leg, we want to win tomorrow and show our best side,” Goretzka explained.
The German midfielder also spoke on his contract issue and offered well-wishing’s to Leverkusen’s injury-stricken star Floran Wirtz.
“I’m not really thinking about it right now. I’ve still got a year left on my contract and our focus is on the tasks to come. We’ve got an important game tomorrow.
“I wish Flo [Wirtz] a speedy recovery. It’s a pity for him, Leverkusen and Germany. Leverkusen have lots of good players … it doesn't change how we approach the game," Goretzka said.
It hasn’t been the easiest of seasons for the 30-year-old who has had to bide time sitting on the bench for periods of the campaign.
“It was a tough start with very little playing time. I tried to keep at it and do my job. I’m now on the pitch more and I’m pleased about that.
“My relationship with the coach [Kompany] has been very good from the start. I always felt he held me in high esteem and was honest with me.
“I also believe he was convinced by me, and it’s been a positive change,” concluded Goretzka, who hopes to continue in the starting lineup.
