FLW rounds-up the latest transfer news surrounding West Brom.
West Bromwich Albion are still on the hunt for their first signing of the January transfer window but continue to be linked with moves for a host of players.
The Baggies are still awaiting to appoint a replacement after Carlos Corberan departed The Hawthorns for his hometown club Valencia back in December, with very few arrivals expected until the new coach is able to come in and evaluate the playing squad.
The January transfer window will prove to be a crucial time for the Baggies though, with key additions in a number of positions vital towards them sustaining a promotion push back to the Premier League.
Albion are well-placed in the second tier in a play-off place, but added depth will be required to take on the relentless and challenging second half of the season.
The January transfer window is likely to be a key period –
West Brom have been ruled out of making a move for Middlesbrough winger Isaiah Jones, with the South London-born attacker set to undergo a medical at Championship rivals Luton Town.
Sky Sports reported this week that both the Baggies and the Hatters had £5 million bids accepted for the 25-year-old, with Luton expected to be his likely destination.
However, West Brom journalist for the Express & Star, Lewis Cox, denied Albion’s interest, declaring that the links were “wide of the mark”.
Meanwhile, London News Online reported Millwall had entered the race for Jones’ signature, but it appears Luton are going to secure his services, with Sky Sports revealing today that the wideman is on his way for a medical while personal terms are not expected to hinder his move to Kenilworth Road.
This news may come as a relief to West Brom supporters, who are already amply filled with many options on both flanks.
According to the Daily Record, Midlands rivals Birmingham City have joined the Baggies in keeping tabs on Rangers full-back Adam Devine.
The 21-year-old is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of the season and may be available on a cut-price deal this month.
Blues are keen to lure the defender away for the remainder of the campaign along with West Brom, who are determined to bolster their squad and add much-needed competition for Darnell Furlong.
Devine has received very little game time recently while in Scotland, so a permanent move away could be what is required to bring a stable environment to his young career.
It proves to be an intriguing battle between the two clubs to see who can earn his signature.
As per the Daily Mail, West Brom have enquired about Liverpool forward Lewis Koumas to give the team an extra edge in the second half of the season.
The 19-year-old has netted four times in 29 appearances on loan with the Potters and could be set to play his football at a promotion-contending club for the remainder of this term.
Albion have connections to the Koumas family, with Lewis’ father Jason once playing for the club, but the Baggies will have to fend off interest from Sheffield United, who are reportedly long-term admirers of the youngster.
