West Ham United are reportedly trying to sign Angel Gomes on a free transfer in the summer.
The Hammers have recently found some form under Graham Potter after a difficult start to his reign at the London Stadium.
West Ham stunned Arsenal with a 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium before cruising to a 2-0 success over Leicester City in their previous league outing.
Despite their recent purple patch, the East Londoners remain focused on making some quality additions in the summer transfer window.
According to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, Potter has identified midfield as an area to improve after taking charge as manager in January.
The English boss wants a new defensive midfielder who is capable of controlling possession and believes Gomes to be an ideal option.
The 24-year-old began his career at Manchester United but left to join Lille due to lack of opportunities at Old Trafford.
The move to Ligue 1 has been very successful for Gomes as he has made 134 appearances across all competitions, with 10 goals and 19 assists to his name.
He hasn’t been a regular this season under Bruno Génésio but his situation has reportedly caught the attention of several top clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and United have all been linked with an interest in the midfielder who will be out of contract in June.
West Ham face tough competition for securing the services of the 24-year-old, but they can seal a move for him by promising more game time in East London.
