Graham Potter takes charge of West Ham United for the first time when the Londoners face Aston Villa tonight.
The Hammers head to Villa Park in the FA Cup’s third round, looking to make a positive start under the new head coach. Potter was confirmed as Julen Lopetegui’s successor on Thursday.
Lopetegui was sacked this week after a poor start to his reign that has left West Ham 14th in the Premier League table. Potter’s task will be to turn around the campaign of a side that has fallen short of expectations.
Potter begins his reign with West Ham light in forward areas. Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio are each facing significant spells out of the side, with the former suffering a fractured foot. Antonio is currently recovering from surgery after a road traffic accident and Niclas Fullkrug is expected to lead the line.
Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is still ruled out by concussion, while Emerson Palmieri is a doubt for tonight’s clash. Aaron Cresswell could come in at left-back for the Italian. The veteran has featured for just 50 minutes in the Premier League this season. Aaron Wan-Bissaka deputised in an unfavored left-back role during the defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool.
West Ham predicted XI: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Cresswell; Soucek, Rodriguez; Kudus, Paqueta, Summerville; Fullkrug.
Aston Villa host West Ham in the FA Cup’s third round on Friday 10th January 2025. Kick-off at Villa Park is 8pm GMT.
The game will be broadcast on ITV 1 to a UK audience.
