Manchester City are reportedly interested in Omar Marmoush – below is everything you need to know about him.

Starting out his career in his native Egypt for Wadi Degla, Marmoush only played 18 times, scoring three, before being snapped up by Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in August 2017. At the Wolves, the Egyptian would go on to feature for their Under 19s side and predominantly the second team in the Regionalliga Nord, the German fourth tier.

Marmoush would transition up to the first team ahead of the 2020/21 season, before being subsequently loaned to second-tier side FC St. Pauli in January 2021. Aged 21 at the time of the transfer, Marmoush scored seven goals and registered three assists in 21 games.

Another loan spell beckoned for the Egyptian in 2021/22, this time at VfB Stuttgart, where he managed only eight goal involvements in 21 matches. After another season at Wolfsburg, Marmoush departed ahead of the 2023/24 season to current side Frankfurt where he is experiencing a sensational 2024/25 campaign, with 30 goal involvements in 24 matches.

Contract status

Marmoush’s contract with Frankfurt expires in the summer of 2027 but does not include a release clause. SportBILD reported that Eintracht had proposed a new contract to the forward in hopes of securing his future, though the player was hesitant regarding a long-term commitment.

Style of play

Marmoush’s main attributes are his close ball control and flair, and his ability to wriggle through opponents with ease. This season he has added finishing to his repertoire, with his ability on dead ball situations also impressive. These attributes all add up for a player who has 18 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this campaign.

Who is interested?

Manchester City are the front-runner for the 25-year-old, who would battle with the likes of Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku and Savinho on either flank for Pep Guardiola’s side. Premier League leaders Liverpool have also been linked, with superstar Mohamed Salah’s future still hanging in the balance as he enters the final six months of his contract.

What’s been said?

Bayern Munich drew 3-3 with Marmoush’s Frankfurt earlier this season, and Bayern manager Vincent Kompany was drawing the praises on the Egyptian: “Marmoush is a player who’s only going to improve with time. What he did for Ekitiké’s goal is not something you see often. To push past Upamecano with that kind of strength—no one has done that all season.

“And then to make the right decision at the end, with such quality in his strike and his speed. He sometimes seems relaxed, but when he gets going, he’s incredibly fast.”

Did you know?

Marmoush’s parents are from Egypt, but worked in Canada for six years. After four years they received Canadian passports, which explains why Marmoush has dual citizenship. However, he was born and grew up in Cairo. The move to Wolfsburg in 2017 was his first move abroad from his homeland. After struggling with the language after his transfer to the Wolves, Marmoush now speaks fluent German.
