Steve Clarke will soon name his Scotland squad for the upcoming Nations League clashes with Greece.
One man who has been perhaps unfairly overlooked for recent squads is Luke McCowan, and the Celtic man will be keeping his fingers crossed that he’s done enough to persuade Clarke to select him.
Luke has been exceptional for Celtic since signing from Dundee in the summer as he carried the impressive form he showed at the Dens side into his Celtic career. He’s further improved as a player in that short spell mainly due to playing with a better calibre of player and playing under an elite development manager in Brendan Rodgers.

He may not have started as many games as he’d liked, but he’s never let himself or his team down when selected, and always makes a great impact from the bench as he did yesterday in the 2-0 win over Hibs. He looked superb in his minutes on the park, always wanting the ball and creating something when he had it, just as he did when he laid on the assist for the killer second goal.
Steve Clarke isn’t exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to creative players, so it would be rather strange to overlook someone such as Luke who is very much in form, available for selection and has been playing at the highest level of club football this season with Celtic in the Champions League.

It will be interesting to see if Luke is included when the squad is announced. If he’s overlooked yet again then he has every right to feel aggrieved. Patience is supposed to be a virtue but football careers are short and Luke McCowan has shown more than enough to catch the Scotland manager’s eye.
