Laura Wienroither says she’s thankful for the opportunity to join Manchester City after signing for the Club on deadline day.
The Austria international has joined on loan from fellow Barclays Women’s Super League outfit Arsenal until the end of the 2024/25 season.
She becomes Gareth Taylor’s side’s fourth winter arrival, and she comes with a wealth of experience in the Champions League having played in Europe for former employers St Polten, Hoffenheim and the Gunners.
What’s more, the versatile defender helped St Polten to an Austrian league and cup double in 2017/18 and the north London outfit to the League Cup in 2022/23.
Now at City for the rest of the season, Wienroither says she’s relieved to have her future decided and that it was an easy decision to join the Blues.
“When you have the chance to sign for a big club in Manchester City, you don’t have to think a lot about it. At least I didn’t,” she declared.
“To be honest, [January] has been really stressful as I didn’t have much time left to [find a club].
“That’s why I’m even more happy to be here now and I think I’m genuinely really grateful to get the opportunity to play for City.
“It’s such a big club and I’ve always had a soft spot for Manchester City, so I’m really excited to be here.” Wienroither joins Rebecca Knaak, Aemu Oyama and Kerolin Nicoli through the door at the Joie Stadium this January.
The quartet signed for the Club after the arrival of Director of Football Therese Sjogran, who has worked closely with Managing Director Charlotte O’Neill, Taylor and other recruitment staff to oversee our winter business since her arrival in December.
And the Austrian defender says she’s grateful for the trust and belief both Sjogran and City have already shown in her.
She added: “I spoke a lot to Therese. I really like her as a human being, she gave me the opportunity to come here.
“She believes in me and trusts in me, and I think these were the factors which made me want to sign for City. “I do really appreciate people trusting in me and believing in me that I can contribute and bring some quality to the team.
“I just hope I can be good for the team and try to be the best team-mate possible for them every single day and have some good performances on the pitch.”
