In case Manchester United were looking to sanction a mid-season sale of Victor Lindelof, in what comes as their last chance to recuperate any funds from his exit, he isn’t short of potential suitors across Europe.

The problem, as is usually the case with Lindelof, is that he is currently sidelined with another injury setback heading into the January window, meaning he is unable to complete a transfer elsewhere unless he returns to full fitness before the February 3 deadline.

It was the same injury woes that prohibited United from selling the Swede – previously hailed as ‘technically brilliant’ by Harry Maguire – over the summer. Numerous reports had suggested he’d been made available for a move before 2024/2025 began, but eventually stayed put at Old Trafford while continuing his rehab.

Alas, Lindelof’s value has only rapidly decreased since then, primarily because the 30-year-old is now in the final six months of his contract and will become a free agent next June.

In the event that he can make a miraculous recovery in the coming weeks, there are numerous clubs said to be keeping tabs on his situation, including AC Milan, Galatasaray and Nottingham Forest. Even Premier League strugglers Leicester City threw their name into the mix recently, with their interest being spearheaded by ex-United coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Alas, Fabrizio Romano has spoken out to squash some of the speculation surrounding Lindelof’s future, insisting that, while he ‘will leave’ in 2025, a move to the King Power Stadium is unlikely.

“£31m star Victor Lindelof is expected to say goodbye to the Red Devils in 2025, with his contract due to expire in June; Man United will be open to listening to proposals in January, but when a player has the chance to be a free agent a few months later it has to be the right opportunity, or he could decide to wait until the summer to find his favourite solution without involving the club,” Romano told GiveMeSport.

“There have been several links between Leicester City and Lindelof due to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appreciation, but sources guarantee that there are no talks ongoing and probably the Swedish defender will look at different clubs when it’s time to leave Man United.”
