Wolfsburg vs. Bochum preview: Can the visitors end their long wait for an away win? | OneFootball

Wolfsburg had experienced a flour-game winless before they faced Stuttgart on matchday 22. Die Wölfe followed a defeat against Bayern Munich with three consecutive draws against Holstein Kiel, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen. Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side fought back from behind to return to winning ways at the MPH Arena last weekend. Tiago Tomás cancelled out Stuttgart’s opener, before Mohamed Amoura netted an 87th-minute penalty to snatch all three points.

As a result of that 2-1 win, Wolfsburg are now sitting in ninth position with 33 points to their name, leaving them just two points adrift of the top six. They will fancy their chances of adding to their points tally this weekend, especially as they have lost just one of their previous seven Bundesliga home outings (W3, D3).

They will also take confidence from the fact they have won each of their last five home games against Bochum, including a 1-0 victory in last season’s meeting at the Volkswagen Arena. Another home win would see them complete a league double after claiming a 3-1 victory in October’s reverse meeting with Bochum.

Wolfsburg could be without Kevin Paredes, Rogério, Lovro Majer, Bartosz Białek, Maximilian Arnold, Kamil Grabara and Lukas Nmecha. Meanwhile, Kilian Fischer will serve a one-match ban after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Bochum

Bochum will be in high spirits after they pulled off an impressive victory over Borussia Dortmund last weekend. January addition Giorgos Masouras scored his first two goals for the club in as many minutes to fire his side to a 2-0 home victory. Masouras’s brace ended Bochum’s four-game winless run and moved them off the foot of the Bundesliga table. Die Unabsteigbaren are now sitting behind the relegation playoff spot on goal difference, although there is still a sizable seven-point gap separating them from safety.

They will try to reduce that deficit in Saturday’s meeting with Wolfsburg, but that will be easier said than done given the fact they are one of two teams yet to win a Bundesliga away game this season. Bochum have taken just two points from their 11 top-flight road trips, leaving them with the worst away record in the Bundesliga.  If they are to end their wait for an away win, Bochum will have to beat Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena for the first time since April 2008.
