Michael Brown hailed City’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Wolves on Friday as another huge step in the quest to seal a place in next season’s Champions League.
Kevin De Bruyne’s smart 35th minute finish was enough to overcome a talented and dangerous Wolves side who hit the woodwork twice.
It represented a fourth straight Premier League win for City – and fifth consecutive victory in all competitions.
The three points also served to lift Pep Guardiola’s side back up into third place in the Premier League table ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.
And for Brown – who was one of our special guests on Friday night’s latest edition of Matchday Live – in the context of City’s push to clinch a top-five finish and a guaranteed spot in next season’s Champions League - it proved priceless.
“That felt like a big, big result and we have seen a real turn in performance and desire,” the former City midfielder declared.
“All we can do is continue winning.
“Regardless of other results elsewhere, you know what the call from Pep Guardiola will be ahead of the next game.
“It will be that we have got to win and look to try to dominate every game – plus we have an FA Cup final to look forward to.
“So can we win every game and then go into the summer on a real high?
“Even when we were winning four titles in a row, for the manager it was always about the next game and trying to get better.”
Reflecting on what was a testing Friday night assignment against a resurgent Wolves side who had arrived at the Etihad on the back of six straight league wins, Brown also pointed to City’s composure and mindset.
“It is looking good and it does feel as if we have a bit more continuity where perhaps we had seen inconsistency before,” Brown added.
“Against a good Wolves side, we saw control, patience and fine game management – especially towards the end of the match when it was still very close at 1-0.
“It also meant another clean sheet, keeping things tight when we needed to and it means right now we are where we want to be.”
