AC Milan, despite being two goals down at one stage, returned to winning ways against Lecce on Saturday, but things have not become more settled as a result.

A game which didn’t need to be filled with drama was in the end, with Milan falling to a first half defeat, despite scoring twice – both were ruled offside. In the second half, things were no better, as the Rossoneri conceded again.

However, inspiration from Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic became the difference and Sergio Conceicao’s side managed to overturn the scoreline, and came out with three points. A needed haul, but a less-than-needed performance.

Let’s look at some of the big stats.

The Basics

Milan, as expected, were dominant in almost every department on Saturday night, but the game did not reflect this. Instead, only the final third of the game saw much Rossoneri promise, which is definitely a worrying thing for the bigger picture.

In a game like this, with respect to Lecce, it is no surprise to see that the Diavolo dominated the ball, and had more shots, and in turn, big chances. Furthermore, the latter two metrics of this list also make more sense, considering the context of the game and Milan being behind.

Interestingly, the Diavolo were also much more clinical with their shots, at least on target, with nine of their 16 going towards goal. However, conceding two of the three Lecce shots on goal, certainly is not great.

Number 1500

This year, the club are celebrating their 125th anniversary, and celebrating almost everything within that period. A rich legacy filled with success and historic players, and this is why we can take a look at the game against Lecce with a somewhat nice light too.

It, in some ways, is somewhat poetic for the club to achieve a record feat during a celebratory year, so for the club to reach 1,500 wins in Serie A history – being only the third club ever to do so – is a nice touch.

Though, many will argue that it could have been reached much sooner.

Three Years in the Making

Comebacks are a necessity on occasions, and Milan were forced to dig deep again. At the start of Sergio Conceicao’s era, the Portuguese gained a bit of a habit for comebacks, though in recent weeks, this ability has faded.

Nevertheless, Comeback Conceicao returned this weekend, with his side two goals down at one point.

The fact that Milan managed to regain a foot in the game and go on to win is superb, even if frustrating, which it was. However, the biggest thing about this, is that the Rossoneri have not been able to overturn a two goal Serie A deficit since October 2021 – almost four years ago.
