Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund are discussing internally about the prospect of signing Rayan Cherki as the transfer window deadline approaches.
Dortmund are said to have watched Cherki for a while and are discussing the possibility of signing the 21-year-old to add to their wing options, especially following the departure of Donyell Malen to Aston Villa earlier this month. The French youth international would add competition to the attacking midfielder position after Julian Brandt has regressed in recent months while Marcel Sabitzer may be needed in a deeper position following the injury to Felix Nmecha.
However, a deal for Cherki may be expensive. Lyon are said to want €22m for Cherki, while the player would ask for around €6m in wages. This would take up the majority of the money that Dortmund received for Malen. On top of this, the 21-year-old lacks speed and Dortmund still needs to address other areas in their square.
New head coach Niko Kovac is said to have the final decision on whether Dortmund pursue Cherki or not. The Croatian managed against him during his time at Monaco.
The transfer deadline is next Monday.
