Manchester City can confirm that Laia Aleixandri will leave the Club on the expiry of her current contract this summer.

Joining City in 2022, the defender went on to make 88 appearances in all competitions across her three full seasons, scoring three times in the process.

A versatile and dependable player, Aleixandri was a regular across her three years at the Joie Stadium, predominantly as centre-half but also at full-back and in defensive midfield.

She was also required to fill in as captain for much of the 2024/25 campaign following an injury to Alex Greenwood, leading a depleted City team in trying circumstances.

While the Spain international was always a consistent performer for the Blues, she enjoyed a real standout campaign in 2023/24 and was essential to the Club boasting the best defensive record in the WSL.

Only Yui Hasegawa, Chloe Kelly and Mary Fowler featured more times than Aleixandri across a campaign where she also found the net for the first time against Bristol City and Arsenal.

That form helped Gareth Taylor’s side equal our highest-ever points tally, taking the race for the WSL to the final day.

This season those impressive displays continued, particularly in memorable 2-0 UEFA Women’s Champions League victories over Barcelona and Chelsea.

An aggressive, front foot defender with an equally remarkable composure in possession, the Spain international cemented herself as a fan favourite across her three years at City as well as being a hugely popular member of the squad.

But now the 24-year-old will move on to pastures new when her current contract expires at the end of June.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to thank Laia for her efforts during her time at the Club and wish her the very best for the future.
