Liverpool can breathe a sigh of relief as Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly not suffered a serious injury.

The right-back was taken off in the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 away win over Bournemouth in the Premier League and replaced by Conor Bradley after feeling discomfort in his thigh.

“The situation was that he said to me, ‘You have to take me off’ and he sat on the floor and we took him off, ” Reds manager Arne Slot told the media after the game.

“He felt something, I can’t tell you exactly what and how bad it is of course because we are one hour after the game, but it is never a good sign if a player is asking for a substitution.

“This is not a fact but I would be surprised if he plays on Thursday, but let’s hope he is back with us as soon as possible.”

It was feared that the England international would be sidelined for weeks, but The Times claim that the playmaker will only be out for days.

Alexander-Arnold remains a doubt for Thursday’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final and Liverpool “will not take any risks” with the player’s fitness.

The Premier League side also face Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend, but the 26-year-old is likely to sit that match out as well.

It’s possible Alexander-Arnold will make his return to action in the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park next week.

In the meantime Liverpool do have cover in his position with Bradley available and Joe Gomez returning to fitness recently.
