Alvaro Carreras wants to know Manchester United’s transfer plans as the Red Devils hold a buy-back option to sign him, as per reports.

United’s decision to part ways with Carreras in the winter window of 2024 received plenty of backlash as not only did Erik ten Hag not give the Spaniard a fair chance to show his talents at the senior level but the club also handed Benfica an option to turn his loan move into a permanent transfer.

Ever since his move to Portugal, the 21-year-old left-back has enjoyed an impressive rise, attracting Europe’s biggest clubs’ attention with his exploits.

Benfica acted swiftly and signed the Spain U21 international permanently in the summer, handing him a five-year contract.

His contract includes a €50 million buyout clause. However, United ensured they would have some advantage by adding a €20m buy-back option in their favour.

Carreras once again made headlines this week after delivering a brilliant performance against Barcelona in the Champions League. The attacking full-back registered an assist in his side’s 5-4 defeat on Tuesday night.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the Benfica star but A Bola (via Sport Witness) claim the La Liga giants will find it difficult to trigger his release clause.

Accordingly, Benfica aren’t worried about interest from Spain. Instead, the focus is on United.

It is claimed “the defender, his family, agent, Benfica and his suitors” want to know whether United intend to sign their former academy star by exercising the buy-back clause.

Further, Carreras wants to understand Ruben Amorim’s stance as it would allow him to plan his own future better. Recently, the Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the young talent is an “option” for the Mancunian outfit to strengthen their flank.

The ex-United star could be an ideal fit for Amorim’s 3-4-3 system as he possesses positional awareness and creative instincts needed to play as a wing-back.

However, at this point, it seems the Portuguese gaffer has set his sights on Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu.
