Marcus Rashford’s loan deal to Aston Villa is all but official, as confirmed by Ruben Amorim. The Manchester United manager spoke on Rashford’s situation, especially in context of his own side’s struggles in front of goal.
United have been desperately short of goals this season. They are one of the lowest scorers in the Premier League and have a goal difference of negative six. However, they are still willing to let go of Rashford, who netted 30 times in the season before last.
After a lengthy saga and much speculation, Rashford will only be leaving United on loan until the end of the season. The Carrington graduate is heading to a Premier League rival and has the potential to make United regret forcing him out. It could be humiliating for United if Rashford recaptures his goalscoring form for Villa. Asked if this would be embarrassing, Amorim responds “It’s not embarrassing.
“When you loan a player, you expect him to play and to improve. So it’s nothing humiliating there. I understand the question, but I’m just focused on my players.”
Rashford scored the first goal of the Amorim era, but that joy was short-lived. His departure comes as a result of a falling out with Amorim. The Portuguese manager had exiled the forward from his playing squad. United’s boss claims that his omission has been due to poor training.
Amorim has maintained that he will not play a player that does not put in enough effort, although the door would remain open for Rashford’s return to his plans. It seems that the door is now closing but does not help United’s situation up front. United’s boss believes “It’s a problem for the team and we spoke about that all the time. We need to improve our performance in every aspect of the game, especially scoring goals.”
On the prospect of signing attacking reinforcements, Amorim asserts “We have to improve as a team to score goals and we are trying the best to improve the team but this market is Is really hard on the clubs.
“We are trying everything.”
