Liverpool boss Arne Slot says there won’t be a repeat of the foul-mouthed rant he directed at referee Michael Oliver last month.
The Dutchman received a two-match touchline ban and a £70,000 fine for his confrontation with the match officials after the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.
In its written reasons for the punishment, the FA revealed that Slot told Oliver “if we don’t win the league, I’ll f****** blame you” before turning to the assistant referee and twice shouting that it was a “f****** disgrace”. He was subsequently shown a red card.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Uefa Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes, Slot admitted that he should have remained calm and spoke to the referee later. He added that he should set a better example for his players by not letting it happen again.
“The moment it happened, I was quite emotional,” the Liverpool head coach said. I chose to go on the pitch instead of staying calm, staying inside and then talking to Michael.
“Now, I don’t have those same emotions anymore so I think I should set a better example than I set back then and not go into the situation again.”
