Arsenal are still in the race to sign Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich on a free transfer this summer.

Kimmich has failed to agree terms on a new deal at Bayern despite negotiations between the Bundesliga leaders and player. The 30-year-old will be free to leave Bayern on a free transfer in the summer if an extension is not agreed.

Arsenal are monitoring Kimmich’s situation closely. The Gunners are understood to ‘still be in the race’ to sign the Germany international, though face strong competition from Paris Saint-Germain. Sky Sports Germany are reporting that PSG have held ‘concrete talks’ with Kimmich and have submitted a formal offer to the player.

Kimmich has made 435 appearances across a decade with Bayern Munich. He has won eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League among his honours. This season, Kimmich leads all Bundesliga players for progressive passes, attempted passes and shot-creating actions per 90 minutes.

According to the report, Arsenal have placed Kimmich on a three-player shortlist to strengthen their midfield in the summer window.

The North London side are admirers of Martin Zubimendi, amid reports that a deal had been agreed for the Spaniard in January. Zubimendi has a €60m (£50.1m) release clause in his contract at Real Sociedad and turned down a transfer to Liverpool last summer.

Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson is also a player of interest to Mikel Arteta. The 20-year-old has impressed since moving to Germany from Malmo and has been a key part of Frankfurt’s challenge for Champions League qualification.
