Long-term injury puts further pressure on Arsenal in January transfer window
Gabriel Jesus is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected ACL rupture.
The Arsenal striker was stretchered off in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Sunday and Mikel Arteta admitted after the match that it was a “big worry”.
Jesus went for scans on Monday and further tests are planned for Tuesday, but The Athletic report that Arsenal believe the Brazilian has ruptured his ACL.
On Tuesday, Mikel Arteta said: “We know more now and it is not looking good at all. But we need to review one more specialist. So we will have more information this afternoon.
"I don't want to confirm anything until we have the final report this afternoon. We are very worried today."
Should that prove to be the case, there will be increased pressure on the club to act in the transfer market before the end of the window.
Arsenal are already without Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri, while the likes of Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard have fallen out of form in recent weeks.
It’s reported that the Gunners are open to strengthening this month and are looking abroad for potential loan options, with more permanent solutions to come in the summer.
With Neto and Raheem Sterling already in the squad, Arsenal do not have any room left for further Premier League loans.
Arteta’s side have struggled in front of goal in defeats to Newcastle and Manchester United, which have significantly dented their hopes of winning silverware this season.
Arsenal must overturn a two-goal deficit at St. James’ Park if they are to reach the Carabao Cup final, while they trail Liverpool by six points in the Premier League title race having played a game more.
