Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has tipped former Tottenham striker Harry Kane to join Arsenal in a controversial move at the end of the season.

Kane left Tottenham to join Bayern Munich and even though his individual form for the German giants has been great, he has failed to win silverware with the Bundesliga side.

The former Tottenham attacker has an outstanding record in the Premier League for Spurs, for whom he scored 213 league goals in 320 appearances.

A report from BILD has revealed that Kane has a release clause in his contract which would make his return to the Premier League possible and Manchester United are also interested in him.

The clause in his Bayern contract to leave the club in the recently finished January transfer window was £67million and it is expected to drop down to £54m next January.

That could give encouragement to Premier League clubs to make a move for him and Merson has tipped the attacker to join his former team’s bitter rivals.

When asked further about his statement, he said: “Why not? £64m, why not?

“Sol Campbell did [make the move].

“People will go ‘oh he’s this age and that age’ but Arsenal need now.”

He added: “If Arsenal haven’t won the League, you’ve got to take a chance. You’ve got to take a chance, buy someone that’s proven.

“I wouldn’t be surprised, and when you’re Harry Kane and you’ve been told you can go for £64m, there’s only a couple of teams who could buy him.

“Maybe Tottenham will buy him back but he’ll have to win something at Bayern Munich to go back to Tottenham. If you’ve not won anything at Bayern Munich, you’re not going back to Tottenham to win nothing.”

The player would not want to ruin his relationship with the Tottenham fans and join their rivals.

Even though the Gunners, who are expected to strengthen their midfield in the summer, would love to have an attacker of his quality in the team.

They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United this week and it was another match that showed that they desperately need a prolific goal scorer in the team.

While Kai Havertz has shown flashes of his brilliance in moments, he lacks the consistency that a top side needs in order to win major silverware.

The fee in the Kane clause would not be an issue for the Gunners to afford but it would be difficult to convince the Bayern striker to move to the Emirates Stadium.
