Leeds United boss Daniel Farke got the best out of Aston Villa's Emi Buendia during their time together at Norwich City

Leeds United are currently top of the Championship table, following Sunday afternoon's 3-0 victory over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Late goals from Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka added to Manor Solomon's strike on three minutes, and sealed an emphatic win for the Whites.

With 19 games left to play, Daniel Farke's men sit top of the league, and are currently doing enough to fend off title rivals Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland.

Up next, the Whites take on Norwich City on Wednesday night, and will be looking to seal back-to-back wins in the Championship before they then travel to third-place Burnley next Monday.

Meanwhile, the January transfer window offers the West Yorkshire side, and indeed their fellow title candidates, an opportunity to strengthen their ranks ahead of the business end of the campaign, while Aston Villa's Emi Buendia could be set for a move to Elland Road.

As reported by the Birmingham Mail, Villa boss Unai Emery revealed that the Argentine could be free to leave the club this month, in an effort to earn more game time.

Farke subsequently shared his admiration for the 28-year-old: "Obviously, I have worked with Buendia, he was one of my best players at Norwich.

"I really rate him, but I don’t comment on a player who right now is playing at a different side."

Football Insider reported last month that the Whites were still keen on making their swoop for Buendia, having failed to land his services last summer.

Should Villa facilitate the Argentina international's move to Elland Road, it would mean that the attacking midfielder will be reunited with Farke, who he worked under at Norwich.

As alluded to by the Whites boss, Buendia was a star player for the Canaries during the German's tenure at Carrow Road, as he helped the club on their way to lifting the Championship title in both 2019 and 2021.

The 28-year-old's move to Villa Park back in 2021 has not been much of a success, as he has never scored more than five goals in a single season for the West Midlands outfit.

However, as seen during his time with the Canaries, Farke is a manager who is capable of getting the very best out of Buendia, especially in the Championship.

During the 2018/19 second tier season, Buendia scored eight goals and created 12 assists in 12 league appearances, and made a further five assists in just three EFL Cup outings.

The Argentine then managed just one goal and seven assists throughout the 2019/20 Premier League season, as the Canaries were relegated from the top-flight.

However, during the following second tier season, he produced an incredible return of 15 goals and 16 assists in 39 league appearances, as the Canaries won yet another Championship title.

Buendia could hand Leeds a major boost amid a tight title race

While the Whites are currently enjoying their top of the league status, they sit just one point above second place Sheffield United, and only three points above Burnley, who are in third.

But Buendia's Canaries stint indicates that, when he is working under Farke, he is a player who can be a real difference maker during a Championship title race.

Should the Whites land the Argentine during the current transfer window, it would come as a major boost towards their title-clinching credentials.

Farke's men are already the Championship's top scorers, so the potential addition of Buendia could have devastating consequences for their title rivals.

The Villa man would be an ideal choice for the West Yorkshire side to select in the number 10 role, as he could effectively complement the goalscoring efforts of striker Joe Piroe, and talented wingers such as Solomon and Dan James.
