During an event earlier today, Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi shut down the rumours of his sporting director, Tony D’Amico, joining AC Milan at the end of the season.

D’Amico has been heavily linked with a move to Milan over the last few weeks, with outlets suggesting that Giorgio Furlani is very keen on hiring the 45-year-old. The problem has always been the contract with Atalanta (2027), though, and it remains the big hurdle.

In an event at Gewiss Stadium for their new sponsor New Balance, as transcribed by Calciomercato.com, Atalanta CEO Percassi was asked about the future of D’Amico. He made it clear that the director has a significant role at the club for next season.

“Will he [D’Amico] also wear New Balance next season? Yes, he’s a fundamental director for us and will have the enormous task of creating a competitive Atalanta. I have great faith in him, he’s happy to stay. Now we are focused on this end of the season, let’s keep working,” he stated.

With D’Amico being given a lot of power at Atalanta, including choosing a new head coach as Gian Piero Gasperini should leave, you could argue that it would be foolish to leave for Milan. The Bergamo side, truth be told, are in a much better position currently.
