Aurélien Tchouaméni (25) came through the ranks at Girondins de Bordeaux and then at AS Monaco as a midfielder, however, that is not where he has been playing for a significant part of the campaign at Real Madrid.

Whilst at international level with Les Bleus, Tchouaméni continues to play an important role in the holding midfield role, he has often been playing at centre-back for Los Blancos in order to cover for absentees in this area of the pitch. He has played 30 games for Real Madrid this season but since the start of October, he has – by and large – been playing in defence rather than in midfield. That is a result of the serious injury to Eder Militão, whilst David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger are also currently out for the reigning UEFA Champions League champions.

It was once again in defence where Tchouaméni featured as the La Liga side beat Manchester City (3-2) on Tuesday night. However, the Frenchman still isn’t a fan of the position. Asked by Canal Plus whether he is starting to enjoy playing at centre-back he replied: “No, not at all.”
