The departures of Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa from Inter Milan could open the door for Bologna’s Santiago Castro to join next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Libero, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Inter have five forwards in the depth chart.

There are Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. These are certainly the two first-choice starters.

Then there is Mehdi Taremi. The Iranian international joined Inter on a free transfer from Porto last summer.

Taremi has bolstered the squad depth and made a positive impact, although he has yet to find form in front of goal.

And lastly, there are Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa. Both are out of contract at the end of next June.

Arnautovic & Correa Exits Could Open Door For Santiago Castro At Inter

It has long looked clear that Inter will not offer new contracts to Arnautovic or Correa.

Therefore, both of the experienced duo will leave at the end of this season.

That will mean that there will be an open slot in attack. Inter will certainly sign a striker.

And there have been a number of names linked.

One thing that seem inevitable is that Inter owners Oaktree Capital will prioritize signing a younger player rather than a veteran.

One name that’s been persistently linked is that of Lille striker Jonathan David. The Canadian will be available on a free transfer, and fits Oaktree’s age profile.

However, David wants a move to a team where he’ll be the first-choice starter rather than a depth option.

On the other hand, 20-year-old Bologna striker Santiago Castro could prove more willing to accept a move to a team where he’d be a backup.

Bologna would want a fee of around €30 million for Castro.

However, Inter owners Oaktree would not necessarily close the door to that kind of investment.

Particularly because the departures of Arnautovic and Correa will free up significant space on Inter’s wage bill. And Castro would be a much lower earner than that pair.
