FC Barcelona are already working on ensuring that their team remains as competitive as possible all year round. Unfortunately for the Catalan giants, they already have rather limited financial freedom and the restrictions imposed on them are quite suffocating at times. In fact, even player registrations have ended up being complicated for Barcelona at times.

Most recently, the issue regarding Dani Olmo’s registration came up as well following his arrival in the summer transfer window. Ultimately, Barcelona were able to bypass the restrictions imposed upon them by making use of the unfortunate injury to Andreas Christensen.

By making use of his freed up salary space that the club could allocate towards the registration of another player due to a long-term injury being at play, Dani Olmo was able to play as a first team player for Hansi Flick’s team. Unfortunately, that also meant that as soon as Christensen came back, issues would need to be addressed again.

Instead, however, the latest update on Christensen’s future is suggesting something entirely different. As per the information shared by Matte Moretto (h/t Barca Times), Barcelona already see the Danish defender leaving the club as soon as January or by the summer of 2025.

Despite the fact that he has a contract in place until 2026 with the Catalan club, it seems that the lack of playing time could end up being a driving factor behind this decision. Moreover, with the likes of Ronald Araujo nearing a return as well, it would normally mean that the Dane will not be getting too many opportunities this season.

Furthermore, given the kind of performances that Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi have delivered so far this season, it would be quite unlikely for Hansi Flick to prioritize Christensen’s participation over either one of them. Even as a defensive midfielder, he now has to compete against a fully available Barcelona midfield that includes the spectacular addition of Marc Casado this season.

Things are not exactly lined up in favor of Christensen, and an exit from the club does make some sort of sense. It would definitely help the club out financially and could also help the player himself. Reportedly, moreover, it would seem that some Premier League sides still have an eye on the former Chelsea player.
