Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has restricted comments on his Instagram posts after receiving a flood of criticism for his performance in the UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan.

The Barça second captain came on in the 76th minute as a replacement for Inigo Martinez but ended up having a night to forget.

The Uruguayan centre-back was partly culpable for the final two goals scored by the Italian side, which ultimately secured their place in the Champions League final.

Araujo targeted by fans

Following the game, many Barcelona supporters have singled Araujo out for blame, taking to social media to express their anger and frustration towards the defender.

“Just leave,” “Please go, you have eliminated us two seasons in a row,” and “You don’t defend anything,” were some of the messages posted under his most recent Instagram post.

As a result, Araujo has disabled new comments on his photos and videos shared on the platform. However, comments remain open on his Twitter account.

What did Araujo say after the game?

Araujo was one of the few Barcelona players to speak publicly after the match against Inter Milan.

The Uruguayan international expressed his frustration when asked about his lack of decisiveness in the defensive actions that led to goals by Francesco Acerbi and Davide Frattesi, saying:

“Do you think I lacked decisiveness? In the first one I am marking him, in front of him… and in the second, in football, there is also such a thing as covering, and those plays get resolved.”

However, recent reports suggest that internal concerns are growing at Barcelona over Araujo’s form, casting some doubts over his future at the club.
