Barcelona appear to have staved off an exit for Ronald Araujo in the coming weeks, with talk of a new contract on the horizon. However his future may not be as settled as first seemed.
It was revealed on Wednesday how Sporting Director Deco convinced Araujo to step back from his desire to leave the club this month, but Marca add that Juventus’ proposals were insufficient for a sale anyway. In the summer, he will have better options on the table. They say that Barcelona will also potentially continue to consider offers if one arrives in the coming weeks, with their asking price rumoured to be around €60-70m. Barcelona do not want Araujo to leave, and do want to renew him, but will still consider offers for him.
The Madrid-based paper say there have not been any advances on a new contract, although that does contradict the majority of other sources. MD say that a meeting between Araujo’s agents and Barcelona is imminent, where they are expected to try and agree terms on a new deal.
They confirm that an ‘affordable’ release clause will be worked into his new deal, which could be for a duration of five years if the club get their way. Should Araujo decide in the summer that he still wants to depart, Barcelona will have an exit route for him.
It does seem that the affection from his teammates and the words of Hansi Flick have helped Araujo to put off an imminent departure. Previously it has been noted that Araujo’s preferred destination would also be the Premier League if he were to leave, which at the moment is not on the table for him.
