Barcelona claimed the Supercopa de España with a 5-2 thrashing of Real Madrid.
Scorers: Mbappé 5', Rodrygo 60'; Yamal 22', Lewandowski (pen) 36', Raphinha 39' 48', Balde 45+10'
Sent off:Â SzczÄsny
On a night when the footballing world anticipated another show-stopping installment of a bitter rivalry, hardly anyone expected events to transpire the way they did on the pitch at Jeddah's King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
An early goal from French superstar Kylian Mbappé just five minutes into proceedings painted an early picture of a possible Real Madrid riot, but the footballing gods had other ideas.
Seventeen minutes later it was Barça sensation Lamine Yamal to level matters with a bit of individual brilliance of his own to restore parity, which the Catalans would use as a springboard to run riot.
Robert Lewandowski joined in on the action to put Barcelona in the lead from the penalty spot in the 36th minute before Raphina bagged a third for the club three minutes later.
Alejandro Balde would shove the dagger in deeper in the 10th minute of added time with a goal of his own, putting Hansi Flick's men out of sight on the night.
The rout resumed three minutes after the restart with Raphina completing his brace after beating the offside trap before dancing past Aurélien Tchouaméni to slot past Thibaut Courtois.
Rodrygo did manage to pull one back for Ancelotti's men in the 60th minute from the penalty spot after Wojciech SzczÄsny was sent off, but he was unable to inspire a dramatic comeback.
Barça's victory extends their record haul of Supercopa triumphs to a 15th title.
