Barcelona have been handed fresh injury concerns after Marc Casado and Inigo Martinez sustained knocks during the victory over Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday.
The Catalan giant recovered from two goals down to register an emphatic 4-2 win, thanks to a double off the bench from Ferran Torres and strikes from Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal.
Martinez, who set up Lewandowski’s goal, concluded the game with a knee complaint, while Casado was substituted in the second half due to a similar problem.
Mundo Deportivo claims the Spanish duo will undergo further tests to determine the extent of their injuries and could be withdrawn from international duty.
Both players have been named in Spain’s squad for the upcoming Nations League quarter-final tie against the Netherlands.
La Roja head coach Luis de la Fuente could call up Barca duo Gavi and Eric Garcia if Casado and Martinez fail to recover.
Martinez’s injury is a huge blow, given his substantiality to Hansi Flick’s side. He only returned to action last month after a brief spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring issue.
The former Athletic Bilbao defender has become a key cog in Barca’s defence this season.
He has consistently showcased his impeccable passing ability combined with defensive solidity. He has also made eight goal contributions.
Meanwhile, midfielder Frenkie de Jong missed the game against Atletico due to a stomach problem. Flick revealed that the Dutchman was in line to start but was pulled out at the last minute.
The victory helped Barca reclaim top spot in La Liga, level on points with Real Madrid but with a better goal difference and a game in hand.
