Barcelona’s hopes of landing Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah appear to be slipping away, with Bayern Munich moving decisively to secure the German defender’s signature.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have already submitted a contract proposal and are pressing for a green light from Tah as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Barcelona, who have long admired the centre-back, are yet to act decisively.

Despite their sustained interest and even a verbal agreement with the player, the Catalans remain hamstrung by two significant obstacles: overbooking in central defence and ongoing Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints.

This is where Bayern Munich have gained the upper hand. With Eric Dier on his way to AS Monaco, the Bavarian giants have wasted no time identifying Tah as a replacement.

Their swift action contrasts sharply with Barcelona’s situation, where sporting decisions continue to be dictated by economic limitations.

Even if Barcelona were to push forward, they would need to offload one or more centre-backs before being able to register a new signing.

Barcelona are still not giving up

While Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is a major advocate of bringing Tah, having worked with him in the German national team setup, the final decision is not in his hands.

Tah is aware of Flick’s support, but also understands that the manager cannot influence the club’s registration or financial issues.

For now, the defender is said to be willing to wait, at least for a little longer, in the hope that Barcelona can create space and make his move possible.

Still, with Bayern pushing hard and offering sporting stability and guaranteed registration, Barcelona are in real danger of missing out on one of their key targets.

The coming days will be crucial, and unless the Blaugrana can resolve their internal problems quickly, it seems more likely that Tah will end up wearing red instead of blaugrana next season.

Barcelona’s interest is real. Flick’s desire is genuine. But without sales and salary space, another transfer target may slip away, this time to a direct European rival.
