In an interview with T-Online, Bayern Munich’s Uli Hoeneß spoke about the Bundesliga title race, having originally declared it over earlier in the season.
Back in November, Hoeneß had originally declared that the title race in the Bundesliga was over, since then Bayern’s margin has decreased. On the title race with Bayer Leverkusen, Hoeneß said:
“I have the feeling that we are now more stable, at least in the league. Always talking about the treble is all nonsense. The most important title is the league title.”
Adding:
“Dortmund progressed in the Champions League and nobody is talking about it. Because in the Bundesliga they are 22 points behind Bayern. For me, the league is the reference. If we become champions, we will have achieved our main goal.”
Bayern currently have a six-point lead over Leverkusen and the two teams are set to square off for the third time this season. The previous encounters have ended with a 1-1 draw in the league, while Leverkusen won 1-0 in the DFB Pokal. The pair could meet once more in the Champions League if Bayern progress through their playoff with Celtic.
To stoke the fire more between the two teams, Hoeneß also spoke about Leverkusen’s star man Florian Wirtz in the same interview, stating his desire for the 21-year-old to join Bayern.
