After failing in their first attempt with a £40 million bid, Napoli will test Manchester United’s resolve again to try and prise Alejandro Garnacho from Old Trafford.
Recent revelations have confirmed that the Red Devils are no longer closed off to the prospect of parting ways with their 20-year-old starlet amid INEOS’ attempts to stay within the league’s financial limitations. Selling homegrown talents, such as Garnacho and Chelsea-linked Kobbie Mainoo, would generate pure profit for the club.
Yet, Ruben Amorim shouldn’t be made to navigate his squad without one of his most ‘impactful’ forwards unless a suitable replacement is lined up. Garnacho made his second successive start last night after dropping to the bench for six matches and played the full 90 as the Reds oversaw an Amad-inspired comeback over 20th-placed Southampton.

The Argentine livewire has notched eight goals and five assists in 31 appearances this term. He was a frequent standout performer in Erik ten Hag’s final season – he netted the opener in last year’s FA Cup triumph over Manchester City – but has come under fire in recent months for a handful of lacklustre showings.
It also remains to be seen if Garnacho himself will push for his transfer to be facilitated, as the Mirror reported yesterday that he was ‘keen to leave’ United after learning of Napoli’s interest.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla revealed late Thursday evening that the Serie A leaders will return with a fresh proposal in the coming days. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has said his goodbyes to the club ahead of his imminent move to Paris Saint-Germain, so a successor to the prolific winger is now a pressing matter for Antonio Conte and Co.
Until then, Amorim will, of course, keep utilising Garnacho. He may be granted another start when United host Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon, who’ve often proven to be a bogey team in recent seasons.
