Celtic and Rangers are reportedly monitoring Blackburn Rovers winger Tyrhys Dolan's situation closely as his contract at Ewood Park approaches its conclusion.

The 23-year-old forward could potentially make a move north of the border after a report from Herald Scotland, which would see Rovers receive significantly less compensation due to cross-border transfer rules, something both Old Firm clubs have done previously with Joe Aribo and Moussa Dembele.

Dolan has been a bright spark for Blackburn since joining from Preston North End in 2020, making 210 league appearances for the Championship side.

With his contract expiring, the talented attacker has become an attractive proposition for the two Glasgow giants, who could secure his services at a reduced fee.

Our FLW resident Rovers pundit, Simon Middlehurst, believes a move to either Celtic or Rangers could be an excellent opportunity for Dolan, with the prospect of European football being a particular draw.

"I've seen news about that and to be honest I can see him going up there," Simon told FLW.

"I think the Scottish league would suit him well, plus the fact that both clubs are playing in Europe as well and they're two top clubs.

"The chance to win trophies as well, I think it's something that will entice him to go up, and I think that the quality player that he is and how well he's done in the Championship, I can see him being quite a big hit in Scottish football.

"To play in Europe will be a great opportunity for him."

Celtic finished 21st in the league phase standings of the Champions league, securing a spot in the knockout phase play-offs where they lost to Bayern Munich.

Rangers reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League after a dramatic win over Fenerbahçe in the Round of 16, marking a respectable European showing despite missing out on the Champions League group stage.

For a young player looking to test himself at the highest level, the opportunity to face foreign opposition could be a compelling factor that English Championship sides simply cannot match.
