Salah couldn’t do it alone though. Keeping a clean sheet against Bournemouth is an incredible achievement! The smart goalkeeping of Alisson Becker proved to be crucial today, along with the immense centre-back partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. When van Dijk has Konate fit beside him, it’s clear to see a massive improvement in Liverpool’s defence, as Konate has been a world-class defender this season. Ibrahima Konate has been labelled as an injury-prone player by some fans. However, everyone would agree that the world sees him at his best when he is able to play a long stretch of games without picking up an injury, as it provides consistency. Konate has also improved this season on the ball, with improvements in his ball-carrying and long balls. Head coach Arne Slot has said that he “already sees this improvement” when speaking about Konate’s on-the-ball ability, though he was quick to point out that he has a lot more room for improvement as he is a very detail-oriented manager. Konate’s partner, Virgil van Dijk has also been incredible. Most would say this is his usual standard, however, his leadership abilities along with his footballing ability at the age of 33 have been pivotal for the Reds this season.
