We are approaching that time of the year again – the international break. After this weekend, there will be several games occurring over the space of around ten days – Asian World Cup qualifying, CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying, European World Cup qualifying, African World Cup qualifying, Nations League, and so on and so forth.
There will, as usual, be plenty of games for Spurs players. Including Ben Davies and Brennan Johnson, whom have been called up to the Wales squad for World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and North Macedonia.
Fortunately, the game against Kazakhstan is at home – meaning they don’t yet have to travel to a country that is closer to China than it is the UK. The game against North Macedonia will indeed be away from home.
The home game against Kazakhstan will take place on Saturday, the 22nd of March, and will kick off at 19:45 GMT. The trip to Macedonia will take place on Tuesday, the 25th March, and will also kick off at 19:45 GMT.
At one stage it looked like Wales were set to be playing in a Nations League play off, but they managed to overcome Euros quarter finalists Turkey to top their group, and therefore secure automatic promotion to league A. Had they finished second, they would be playing a double header against Hungary this break.
This break presents a good opportunity for Davies to become just the fourth player to win 100 caps for Wales this break – he is currently on 92, level with Neville Southall. He could get that 100th cap at some point this year – injuries permitted, and he has had more than normal this year. Spurs legend Gareth Bale holds the record for most caps, with 111.
As for Johnson, he currently has 33 caps – which is actually a pretty good effort for someone who is still just 23 years of age. He has five goals to his name in that time.
Manager Craig Bellamy is still unbeaten from his six games in charge, winning three and drawing three in their Nations League campaign. They will likely have made a very promising start to qualifying if that gets to eight games. The other teams in their group are: Belgium, Liechtenstein and North Macedonia.
So, a pretty good chance of finishing second, though it will be a tough test to usupr Belgium - albeit they definitely are not the team that they used to be.
