Brighton and Hove Albion have enquired about a move for Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Corentin Tolisso (30), according to a report from L’Équipe.
Lyon are prohibited from recruiting in January and in order to satisfy the DNCG’s (French football’s financial watchdog) demands, the club will be forced to sell during the upcoming transfer window if they are to avoid relegation to Ligue 2 at the end of the campaign.
There are some obvious candidates for departures: Maxence Caqueret, Gift Orban, Saïd Benrahma, and Ernest Nuamah, to name but a few, but one of their more experienced players is also garnering interest. Brighton are looking to add an experienced midfielder to their ranks next month and Tolisso fits the bill.
The Premier League side have enquired about the feasibility of a deal, not only with the player but also with OL. However, as things stand, it looks more likely that the France international will remain with his formative club with the player keen to stay at the Groupama Stadium. He is, nonetheless, flattered by the interest shown in him by Brighton.
The finances of a deal could also prove a sticking point for Brighton, whose contract is worth €600,000 a month and runs until 2027.
