Crisis is brewing at Stade Malherbe de Caen (SMC). The Normandy Ligue 2 team have lost a six-pointer against relegation-fighting Clermont Foot 63 at home this Friday, leaving Caen in a precarious position in 16th place. The Kylian Mbappé-owned Malherbe are in disarray and the home fans made their displeasure known against the Real Madrid centre-forward, whose company’s investment fund Coalition Capital owns a majority share in the club.
For tonight’s game at Caen’s Stade Michel d’Ornano, the home fans hung banners notably lamenting the dismissal of former club legend Nicolas Seube by the club’s new hierarchy. “Before shining on the world stage, respect the local figures”, “Mbappé, SMC is not your toy.”, “Here, legends are made through work and loyalty”, the banners read. This season, SM Caen have won four games, drawn three and lost ten.
