He announced the news with a video message on his social media accounts.

“Dear football, today is one of the most important days of my life. The time has come to say goodbye. Here, at San Siro, the temple of football, where I played my last match.

“My journey with you began here 30 years ago, filled with joy and pain, sacrifice and victory, and for sure, so many emotions.

“I’ve lived my dream, my passion. I don’t see this as a farewell, but just a new starting point. Thank you, football, see you soon.”
