Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confessed he dreamt of becoming the Liverpool boss before taking charge of rivals Everton in 2019.

Ancelotti, who won the 2009/10 Premier League title with Chelsea, enjoyed spells with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Napoli before ending up on the blue half of Merseyside, taking the world by surprise as he signed on at Goodison Park.

He spent 18 months at Everton before departing once again for Madrid, and his time in the city saw him abandon a previous dream to take charge of Liverpool.

"My dream was to coach Liverpool, but then I found myself at Everton and I experienced their rivalry, and now I am absolutely an Everton fan," Ancelotti told RSI.

"I really liked the environment, because there is a spectacular passion for the colours. You also notice the suffering that the fans have for Liverpool, which for many years and still today is the best in the Premier League."

Ancelotti has faced Liverpool 20 times across his career, beginning with the famous 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul, in which his AC Milan side were 3-0 up at half-time but ultimately lost on penalties. Milan took revenge in 2007's final, the first of Ancelotti's 11 career wins over Liverpool.

Whether he will get the chance to face Liverpool again remains to be seen. His future with Madrid is far from certain after a disappointing campaign, with the Spanish giants tipped to replace him with Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso this summer.
