Celtic have found a lot of success in recent years. Even this season, they are closing in on another treble. If successful, it would represent their sixth one in the past nine seasons. That is a brilliant run for any team, no matter how you feel about the quality of Scottish football. And even more impressively, the Hoops have achieved all this while their squad has undergone constant change and even one complete rebuild after the 2020/21 campaign.
There have been quite a few players who might not have gotten their due credit for their contribution to this run. One name that comes to mind is that of Greg Taylor.
Taylor has been a key contributor for Celtic, as a starting left-back, for several seasons now. But there have always been calls for someone else to be signed in that position and take his place in the team, even when the Scottish international was putting in consistent performances.
Celtic will do just that this summer when Kieran Tierney returns. On the other hand, there is a possibility that Jeffrey Schlupp could be signed on a permanent basis as well. The Crystal Palace loanee has taken Taylor's place at left-back since arriving in the winter.
On the other hand, Taylor looks set to leave in the summer, with his current deal set to run out. And Celtic fans have been called out for often making him a 'scapegoat'. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Tam McManus told PLZ Soccer:
"He is a player the supporters have used as a scapegoat at various times.“A lot of mistakes and he has been the scapegoat for it when they lose games. But I think he has improved. I think Brendan Rodgers has improved him as a player, the same as Postecoglou when he came in. I think he has been a really, really solid left-back."
Taylor has been heavily linked with a move to Dinamo Zagreb in recent times. Let's see whether it ends up going through or not.
Taylor has certainly played an important part in Celtic's success recently. We can only wish him the best of luck moving forward.
