Celtic will be seeking revenge on their opponents after Tony Docherty’s side managed a surprising point against the Scottish Champions at Dens Park last month.

Dundee were on a tremendous run of form since the beginning of the year before it all came crashing down on Saturday against Hearts. Credible draws versus Celtic and theRangers in Tayside was followed up by an impressive 1-0 victory at Dens Park over rivals Dundee United in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. And it could have been even better as Dundee were close to winning both matches against the Glasgow sides.

Shock result at weekend – Dundee 0-6 Hearts

However, Neil Critchley’s in form Jambos surprisingly put six by Docherty’s men over the weekend which could prove to be damaging for the Dens Park club’s confidence ahead of visiting the Scottish champions tomorrow night.

The two sides met in Glasgow earlier on this season where Celtic were 2-0 victors courtesy of Alistair Johnston and an Arne Engels penalty in the second half.

Taking charge of this encounter will be the inexperienced Colin Steven. Steven has only refereed one Celtic game in his career and that came earlier on this season when the Hoops breezed past Hearts 2-0 at Paradise in September.

Controversially, Steven was sent to the VAR monitor on two occasions during the game. The whistler had given a penalty to Hearts on-field in the first half after he adjudged Liam Scales to have handled the ball in the box. Overturning his decision, no penalty was awarded.

‘Clear and obvious error’

In the second 45, Steven was sent to the monitor yet again for a second ‘clear and obvious error.’ Jambos left-back James Penrice clearly handled the ball inside the box and despite not giving the penalty in real time, Steven pointed to the spot after reviewing the incident at the VAR screen.

Joining Steven on-field in Glasgow’s east end on Wednesday are linesman Jonathan Bell and Alistair Mather. Manning VAR duties at Clydesdale House is Alan Muir. It will be Muir’s first involvement in a Celtic game since the contentious cup-final penalty incident that the full-time SFA VAR official presided over.
