Levi Colwill and Enzo Fernandez could return for Blues against Man City
Romeo Lavia faces a number of weeks out of action for Chelsea in a fresh blow to manager Enzo Maresca.
The midfielder missed Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Wolves with a muscle injury he had picked up in the previous match against Bournemouth.
That saw him miss training sessions last week, and Maresca confirmed on Friday morning that the midfielder will be missing for “a few weeks”, having failed to recover.
Lavia made just one Premier League appearance last season in his first campaign since swapping Southampton for Chelsea, due to serious hamstring and ankle injuries.
But the Italian explained that he feels the Blues are well stocked in midfield and will not need to enter the January market in the final week to find a solution.
At his press conference last Friday ahead of the Wolves game, Maresca had revealed Lavia, Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer were all doubts.
While Palmer played, the other three were absent against Wolves. Maresca expects Colwill and Fernandez to be back in time for Saturday’s match against Manchester City at the Etihad, though.
“Probably Levi [Colwill] and Enzo [Fernandez] could be available, depends on today’s session,” he said. “Romeo [Lavia] will be out.”
Asked whether there is a timeframe for Lavia’s return or details about the injury, Maresca replied: “We don’t know yet. We need to wait a little bit more. At least a few weeks more.
“We have enough players to cover that situation. At the moment, the intention is not to go for one more midfielder.”
Maresca was asked whether there could be incomings in any position for Chelsea in the final 10 days of the window.
“With the club, the sporting directors, we pay attention if something can happen,” he said. “We will see in the next 10 days if something will happen.”
