According to a report from RMC Sport, Chelsea have reached an agreement with AS Saint-Étienne for Mathis Amougou (19). The West London side are set to spend €15 million to secure the signing of the France U19 international.
However, his immediate future remains somewhat unclear. It is not yet known whether Amougou will see out the rest of the season with Chelsea or will be sent out on loan. Le Parisien writes that he will not continue his development in Ligue 1 with Chelsea’s sister club RC Strasbourg Alsace.
Amougou has gained some significant game time for Les Verts this season and was a regular starter for the first few months of the season under previous head coach Olivier Dall’Oglio.
After gaining promotion back to Ligue 1 through the playoffs last season, Saint-Étienne are in the midst of a relegation battle. A defeat to Lille OSC over the weekend and a victory for Stade Rennais saw the club drop down into the relegation playoff spot.
