Chelsea are in a pretty strong injury position at the moment, certainly compared to large periods of recent seasons where they’ve been down to the bare bones.

Enzo Maresca has just taken his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s massive game on Sunday, where the manager revealed the worrying news that a first team regular is at the very least a slight doubt for the game.

Robert Sanchez a doubt for crucial game

“At the moment, just Marc Guiu and [Aaron] Anselmino are out,’ Maresca said ahead of Sunday’s clash. ‘Christo Nkunku has a small problem. When we get back to Cobham, the medical staff will tell me how he is and what his status is. He wasn’t with us in Sweden,” the manager said.

“It is exactly the same for Robert Sanchez too, although he is working on the pitch so compared to Christo, he is a better situation. He wasn’t with us in Sweden either and we will see and assess them both before Sunday.”

You can see Maresca speaking in the clip embedded here:

While we’ve showed our frustration with Sanchez many times, and while Filip Jorgensen made some nice saves last night in the Conference League, there’s still no question that Sanchez is the better option for now.

Going by what Maresca said, and certainly by his demeanour, it sounds like Sanchez will be ok. Hopefully he can build on some improved recent performances – Sunday is going to be a real test, and a clean sheet could prove a vital ingredient for a win. Our scoring potential has improved now that Nicolas Jackson has found some form, but we will need to be strong at the back to get the 3 points we desperately need tomorrow.
