Sheffield United will face Leeds United on 24 February

Chris Wilder has tipped Leeds United to win the Championship title this season amid competition from his Sheffield United side.

Only two points separate the two teams at this stage of the campaign, with 14 games still to play.

The likes of Burnley and Sunderland are also in the mix, with all four clubs chasing automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Blades will face Leeds before the end of the month, which could prove a crucial clash in the bid to win the second division this year.

Chris Wilder makes Leeds United title claim

Wilder has claimed that Leeds are the favourites to win the title this season, highlighting their recent run of strong form.

However, he has issued a warning to Daniel Farke’s side that Sheffield United will look to push them all the way to the end of the term.

“People look at tables and when somebody drops a couple of points and someone wins a game or whatever,” said Wilder, via The Star.

“We have just got to keep our heads down and keep doing what we are doing and if we do that, we are going to be in the mix.

“If we don’t, we will find ourselves out of it.

“We want to be involved in it right the way through to the end and if we keep producing those types of performances, then we are going to give ourselves a good chance.

“Leeds are the talked-about team and rightly so.

“They’re a fabulous group of players and are well-coached, smashing everybody here, there and everywhere.

“They’re everybody’s tip to win it. From my point of view, I’d say the same.

“But we want to make it interesting and hopefully we will do in terms of collecting the points and producing those performances.”

Sheffield United league position

Sheffield United are currently second in the Championship table, with 67 points from 32 games.

The Blades were docked two points by the EFL at the start of the campaign, which is now the gap between them and Leeds.

Next up for Wilder’s side is a trip to face Luton Town on 15 February.

Title battle mind games have begun

Wilder’s comments come just under two weeks before Sheffield United face Leeds at Bramall Lane.

It is no coincidence that he is saying this before that game, as it will add to the pressure on the Whites and take some off his own team.

That game could prove quite important in deciding the destination of the championship, but there are still a lot of games left to play even after that meeting.

Burnley and Sunderland will also have their role to play in all of this, with Leeds even playing the Black Cats this weekend, so it’s too soon to suggest the title race has a predictable outcome.
