Roma head coach Claudio Ranieri spoke to DAZN on the eve of the Derby della Capitale with Lazio.
In his interview, Ranieri said, “The last time I came to the Olimpico as Cagliari coach I said ‘This is my last time’. I didn’t think I would return and return as Roma coach.”
“The derby defies all logic. Lazio are the favorites because if they have 15 more points than us it means they immediately got into the right gear and are deserving of what they are doing because they play well and score goals.”
“They are a team that moves in unison, it will be a great derby,” he added.
“Which Lazio player would I steal? I prefer to keep mine. I am proud of my players.”
“When you change managers, a coach brings his knowledge. Every coach wants to win, there have been difficulties and I am convinced that I have set the ship sailing. We are not yet sailing full steam ahead but I am waiting for that moment to kick in.”
“We can win the derby with a super performance against Lazio.”
“Pellegrini? Lorenzo is a very sensitive boy, he is not part of the group of Romans who let everything slide off them. He takes on all the problems and this is not good for him.”
“The open air training invitation to the fans? We organized that afternoon not so much for the derby but for the children and families. It was the first of the year and we wanted them to be close to us. I was also sorry that the next game was the derby, because it seemed like we wanted to do it specifically for that occasion. In truth we just wanted to hug and be hugged by our fans.”
