The Premier League have confirmed that Chris Kavanagh will oversee proceedings between Wolves and Manchester City from the role of match referee at Molineux.

The two teams for this weekend’s fixture couldn’t have endured more polar opposite starts to the ongoing season, with Manchester City remaining unbeaten up until the second international break, while Wolves find themselves rock bottom without a win to their name.

Pep Guardiola and his players will be wanting to further extend their unbeaten start to the season whilst also welcoming back the likes of Nathan Ake and Kevin De Bruyne from respective injury problems in the last few weeks.

As for Gary O’Neil, while there may be external pressure growing on the head coach, Wolves’ hierarchy have put their faith back into their manager to turn their form around after one draw and six defeats from their opening seven matches.

Ahead of the meeting between Wolves and Manchester City, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at Molineux!

Match Referee

Manchester-born referee, Chris Kavanagh has been appointed by the Premier League as the lead on-field match official at Molineux, taking charge of his sixth game of the English top-flight season.

This will be the first time that Kavanagh has overseen a match involving Manchester City this season, with his opening five outings in the Premier League producing 31 yellow cards, and three dismissals, with one coming via a straight red card.

Manchester City have an almost-perfect record in matches officiated by Kavanagh, winning seven outings, drawing three, and losing one, with 17 yellow cards issued in that time and three penalties awarded.

Pep Guardiola’s last match overseen by the 39-year-old referee came at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as a 0-2 win was recorded by Manchester City en route to a fourth successive Premier League title at the end of the last campaign.

Assistant Referees

Accompanying Kavanagh at Molineux on Sunday afternoon from their respective roles as assistant referees will be Constantine Hatzidakis and Richard West, as confirmed by the top-flight this week.

Video Assistant Referees

Reviewing events forensically from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park and aiding Chris Kavanagh from above will be Stuart Attwell in the role of Video Assistant Referee, accompanied by Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Marc Perry.

Fourth Official

Keeping things in order from the Molineux dugouts will be fourth official, Tom Bramall managing events between Wolves boss Gary O’Neil and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.
