Yesterday’s Serie A win over Cagliari showed that Inter Milan are a “more complete team than ever” under Simone Inzaghi.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note how goals and assists can always come from any player on the pitch.
Inter scored three goals through three different players yesterday.
The Nerazzurri also added a name to their list of goalscorers for the season. Defender Alessandro Bastoni got his first goal of the campaign for their opener.
Meanwhile, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez finally ended his long goal drought. He and Inter will certainly be hoping that this is just the beginning from the Argentine.
Lastly, Hakan Calhanoglu was his usual clinical self from the penalty spot to wrap up the victory for the Nerazzurri.
The Gazzetta argue that it could be the case that Inter are a stronger team now than they’ve ever been under Inzaghi.
What’s not up for debate, the newspaper suggests, is that Inter are “more complete” now than ever.
The Nerazzurri have had a remarkable fifteen players on the scoresheet already this campaign. And that’s no coincidence.
From set pieces, Inter can certainly create chances, as happened with Bastoni’s goal.
But even from open play, every player barring goalkeeper Yann Sommer can get into the penalty area and score goals.
That was on show yesterday, as the midfielders in particular took up numerous dangerous positions. And it was a quiet evening for the wingbacks by their usual prolific standards.
Inter captain Martinez has not had to be prolific in recent weeks as the rest of the team have picked up the slack during the Argentine’s dry spell.
But the prospect of Martinez scoring at his usual rate makes Inter all the more daunting in attack.
And Hakan Calhanoglu’s emphatic penalty suggested that his rare slip-up against Napoli does not mean that he’s suddenly stopped being reliable from the spot.
