According to a report from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Cristiano Ronaldo (40) is set to remain at Al-Nassr, despite rumours of a departure ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. The captain of Portugal has reportedly an agreement already in place with the Saudi club, with Saudi sources telling Foot Mercato that he has already signed his new contract with the club.Rumours had circled over a potential move to Wydad Casablanca, with Marca reporting the Moroccan club was considering a short-term move to prepare for their first appearance at the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States in June. Al Nasser did not qualify for the tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Al-Nassr expires on June 30. The Saudi club are set to finish third or fourth in the Saudi Pro League and, crucially, will not participate in the Club World Cup, leaving Ronaldo without a clear path to the competition.Meanwhile, FIFA is understood to be keen on the idea of including global superstars like Ronaldo and Lionel Messi – whose Inter Miami are qualified – to boost visibility for what will be the first edition of the Club World Cup in its new format.GFFN | George Boxall
