Used primarily on the left-wing, the former Yokohama F. Marinos attacker has been mainly deployed in the centre-forward position for his country which has always remained an interesting proposition at club level with Celtic.
Well Daizen’s opportunity came when Kyogo Furuhashi departed the Glasgow giants in January for Stade Rennais, when everyone thought Adam Idah would step up and stake his claim for that number nine berth full-time. That hasn’t transpired though, as the Japanese international’s form has been outrageous and his golden touch hasn’t wavered whatsoever in the time since his compatriot left these shores.

He’s in with a strong shout for Player of the Year and with a chance at hitting the 40 goal barrier this term, it would be a tough cookie to vote against him for that particular accolade. His non-stop running and pressing for the team have never been questioned, but sometimes in the past his ability to control the ball well and find that final ball or get the strike on goal himself was up for debate.
That’s a thing of the past now though, as Daizen’s goal threat has developed to another level this year, with several pundits pointing to his development as a real game-changer for the club. So much so, that it’s been reported that Maeda may have changed Brendan Rodgers summer transfer plans, with him looking to procure a more expensive winger than buy another striker. All hearsay for now that though.

When the Hoops got back to Paradise this weekend so that they could be greeted by the supporters and receieve the adulation for their hard work and consistency this season, the man who’s smashed in 30 odd goals for the club this season was asked if he had a message for the Celtic support and he declared that Glasgow is Green!
